HEIC or HEIF photos — saved as lossless PNG

Converted on your device — files are never uploaded

In short

To convert HEIC to PNG, drop your .heic files into the box above and press Download. Your browser decodes each photo and saves it as a lossless PNG, so no further quality is lost when you edit and re-save it. Photos stay on your device; batches download as one ZIP. Choose PNG for editing or design work and JPG for sharing, because PNG photos are large.

How to convert HEIC to PNG

  1. Open: drag .heic photos onto the box above or tap Choose files.
  2. Convert: each photo is decoded on your device and saved as a PNG — there is no quality setting because PNG is lossless.
  3. Check: compare the preview with the original; size and dimensions are shown next to each file.
  4. Download: save single PNGs or press Download all for a ZIP.

When PNG is the right choice for an iPhone photo

PNG is lossless: every time you save it, the pixels stay exactly the same. That makes it the right target when a HEIC photo is the start of further work — retouching in an editor, cutting out a subject, adding it to a slide or design file, or keeping a master copy you will export many times. JPEG, by contrast, loses a little detail on every save, which adds up after several rounds of edits. The trade-off is size. A 12-megapixel iPhone photo is around 1.5–3 MB as HEIC, 3–5 MB as a high-quality JPG and often 15–25 MB as PNG. If you only want to email, upload or print a photo, JPG is the better choice. If you need a clean, re-editable copy — or a format that design tools such as Figma, Canva and older versions of Photoshop accept without fuss — PNG is ideal, and this page creates it on your device without uploading anything.

Private, local conversion

The converter runs entirely in your browser tab. Your photos are read from your disk or camera roll, decoded in memory and written out as PNG files, without being sent to a server. That matters for personal photos: HEIC files from an iPhone usually contain GPS coordinates, and the photos themselves may show your home, family or documents.

  • No upload, no account, no watermark.
  • No file count or size limit beyond your device's memory.
  • Metadata such as GPS location is not copied into the PNG.
  • Rotation is applied, so the PNG is upright in every app.

Other ways to get PNG from HEIC

Built-in tools can do this too; here is what works where.

Mac

Open the photo in Preview and choose File > Export, then pick PNG as the format. Finder's Quick Actions > Convert Image offers JPEG, PNG and HEIF, and handles many files at once.

Windows

With HEIF Image Extensions and the paid HEVC Video Extensions installed, open the photo in Paint and use File > Save as > PNG picture. Without the extensions, Windows cannot read the file; this page works without them.

iPhone

iOS has no direct “save as PNG” for photos. A screenshot of a photo is a PNG, but it is cropped to screen resolution and loses detail. Opening this page in Safari and converting the original file keeps the full image (up to Safari's canvas limit of about 16.7 megapixels).

iPhone photos have no transparent areas, so PNG's transparency support only matters if you will cut out the background later. If you are not sure which to pick, start with HEIC to JPG — it is what most websites and people expect.

Frequently asked questions

Is HEIC to PNG lossless?

The PNG stores the decoded photo with no further loss. The original HEIC was already compressed by the camera, so PNG preserves exactly what the HEIC contained — it cannot add detail back.

Why is the PNG so much bigger than the HEIC?

HEIC is a lossy, highly efficient format. PNG is lossless and stores every pixel exactly, so photos become roughly 8–12 times larger.

Are my photos uploaded?

No. Conversion runs in your browser and the files never leave your device.

Can I convert several HEIC files to PNG at once?

Yes. Add as many as you like and press Download all to get them in a single ZIP.

Does the PNG keep the photo's location data?

No. Only pixels are written to the PNG, so GPS and camera metadata are removed.

Should I choose PNG or JPG?

Choose PNG if you will edit the photo further or need a lossless master. Choose JPG for sharing, email, web uploads and printing because the files are much smaller.
