How to upscale an image
- Open: drop one or more images on the tool, tap Choose images or paste. JPG, PNG, WebP and iPhone HEIC work.
- Pick the size: 2×, 4×, or 4K for 3840 px on the long side. The output size shows before you start.
- Press Upscale image. The AI model (4.9 MB) downloads once and then runs on your device.
- Check it with the slider or Zoom 100%, then Download, or Download all (.zip) for a batch.
Upscaling vs. resizing
Resizing an image in Paint, Preview or Photoshop's basic resample spreads the same pixels over a bigger area, so edges turn soft and JPEG blocks get bigger. AI upscaling predicts the missing detail: it was trained on pairs of small and large photos, so it redraws crisp edges, fine texture and clean gradients at 2× or 4× the size. That makes small web images, old phone photos, screenshots and AI art usable for prints, wallpapers and slides. It can't invent detail that was never captured — a face a few pixels wide stays a guess — so the best results come from images that are small but in focus. Here the upscaling runs in your browser on WebGPU (or WebAssembly on older devices), which is why there are no credits or daily caps.
Conditions: what's free and the real limits
| Condition | This image upscaler |
|---|---|
| Price | Free, unlimited — no paid plan, credits or daily cap |
| Sign-up | Not needed |
| Watermark | None, on every download |
| Scale | 2×, 4×, or 4K (3840 px on the long side) |
| Largest output | 4096 px on the long side; bigger requests are capped there |
| Large originals | Fed to the AI at up to 1024 px (WebGPU) or 640 px (CPU) on the long side, then enlarged 4× and resized to the target |
| Formats | JPG, PNG, WebP, HEIC in; same format out (HEIC becomes JPG); PNG transparency kept |
| Batch | Many images at once, ZIP download |
| Upload | None — images stay on your device |
| Speed | Seconds with WebGPU (recent Chrome, Edge, Safari); slower on older devices |
These are the tool's actual limits. The 4096 px cap keeps memory use safe in a phone or laptop browser; for larger prints, 4096 px is about 34 cm at 300 dpi.

Competitor details are as shown on their own home pages on 8 November 2026. Server upscalers can go past 4096 px; if you need 8× or a 100-megapixel print, that's where they're the better fit.
Frequently asked questions
How do I upscale an image for free?
Open it on this page, pick 2×, 4× or 4K and press Upscale image. Download the result with no watermark; there's no sign-up or daily limit.
How do I upscale an image without losing quality?
Use an AI upscaler rather than a plain resize. It redraws edges and texture at the new size, so text, hair and outlines stay sharp. Start from the best original you have.
Can I upscale an image to 4K?
Yes. Pick 4K and the long side becomes 3840 px — 3840 × 2160 for a 16:9 image.
What's the biggest size I can upscale to?
4096 px on the long side. 2× and 4× are capped there, which is about 34 × 23 cm at 300 dpi for a 3:2 photo.
Does it work on iPhone and Android?
Yes, in Safari or Chrome. On a phone it's slower than on a laptop with WebGPU, and large images may take a minute.
Can I upscale a PNG with a transparent background?
Yes. The transparency is kept and the result downloads as PNG.
Are my images uploaded?
No. The AI runs in your browser; images never leave your device.
Can I upscale many images at once?
Yes. Add several and press Upscale all, then Download all (.zip).
Can it fix a blurry photo too?
Upscaling sharpens a small image. For a photo that's blurry at its full size, use Unblur Image, which is tuned for out-of-focus and soft shots.
