How to remove text from an image
- Open: drop one or many images on the tool, tap Choose images, or paste with Ctrl/Cmd+V. JPG, PNG, WebP and HEIC work.
- Mark the text: paint over the words with the brush, drag a box around a block of text, or press Detect text automatically to mark every word it can read.
- Remove: press Remove text. The marked area is filled in from the picture around it in a second or two. Missed a spot? Paint over it and press Remove text again.
- Download: one image, or Download all as a ZIP. The file keeps its size and format and ends in …-no-text.
How text removal works here
Removing words from a picture means two things: finding which pixels are text, and inventing what was behind them. You can mark the text yourself with a brush or box, or let an OCR reader (Tesseract, also running in your browser) find the words and mark them with a small margin for outlines and shadows. The marked pixels are then filled by MI-GAN, an image inpainting model from Picsart AI Research, which runs on your device through WebAssembly after a one-time 28 MB download. Each marked area is filled with its surroundings as context, and only the marked pixels are copied into your image, so the rest of the picture — faces, product, background — stays pixel for pixel the same, at its original resolution. Text on plain colour, sky, walls, road or grass disappears cleanly. Text over a detailed object (a face, a logo, a patterned shirt) is filled with a plausible guess, which may need a second pass with a smaller brush.
What it removes well
| Text on the image | Example | Result |
|---|---|---|
| Caption or title over sky, wall, water | Travel photo with handwritten caption | Clean — background continues naturally |
| Date stamp in a corner | Orange “08 14 2025” camera date | Clean — Detect text usually finds it |
| Promo banner on a plain backdrop | “SUMMER SALE −40%” on a product shot | Clean — the product is untouched |
| Words on a table, road or grass | Menu text over a café table | Good — wood grain or texture is re-drawn |
| Small watermark text or username | @handle in a corner | Good — mark it with a box |
| Text over a face, logo or fine pattern | Caption crossing someone's face | Fair — plausible fill, may need a second pass |
| Text that is part of the scene | Shop sign, T-shirt print, book cover | Works, but the object is left blank where the letters were |
Tip: mark a little beyond the letters, including any shadow or outline. Several small marks give a better fill than one huge box, because each area is filled with the picture right around it.
Image text removers compared
| Feature | This page | Typical online text removers |
|---|---|---|
| Uploads your image | No — runs in your browser | Yes, to their server |
| Finds the text for you | Yes — Detect text marks every word | Most: brush only |
| Batch | Yes — detect per image, or the same marks on all, then ZIP | Usually one image at a time |
| Output size | Original resolution; only marked pixels change | Often limited or downscaled on free plans |
| Watermark on the result | None | Sometimes on free downloads |
| Account or credits | None, no limit | Often a sign-up or daily credits |
| Works offline after first use | Yes — the model is cached | No |
Good to know
- The first Remove text downloads the 28 MB eraser model once; after that it's cached and works offline. Detect text loads a small English reading model the first time you use it.
- Large photos are handled in pieces: each marked area is filled at up to 1024 px and blended back, so a 12 MP photo keeps its full 12 MP.
- Detect text reads Latin letters and digits best. For other scripts, or stylised logos, paint over the text instead.
- Use it on your own images or ones you have the right to edit. Removing a photographer's or stock site's watermark to reuse their image isn't allowed by most licences.
Frequently asked questions
How do I remove text from an image?
Open the image on this page, paint over the text (or press Detect text), then press Remove text and download. It takes a few seconds and nothing is uploaded.
Can I erase text from a picture without Photoshop?
Yes. This page does what Photoshop's content-aware fill does for text: mark the words and they're filled in from the surrounding picture, in your browser.
How do I remove words from a picture on my phone?
Open this page in your phone's browser, choose the photo, paint over the words with your finger and tap Remove text. It works on iPhone and Android.
Can it remove text from many images at once?
Yes. Add several images, then use Find & remove text in each, or mark one image and use Use these marks on all for a caption or stamp in the same place. Download them all as a ZIP.
Does it reduce quality or add a watermark?
No watermark. The image keeps its original size and format; only the pixels you marked are changed. JPG is saved at quality 95, PNG losslessly.
Can it remove a date stamp from a photo?
Yes. Press Detect text or drag a box over the date, then Remove text. Camera date stamps on sky, road or walls come out clean.
Are my images uploaded?
No. The OCR reader and the eraser model both run in your browser, so your images never leave your device. There is no account.
Why does the filled area look blurry or smudged?
The text covered something detailed, or the mark was very large. Undo, mark smaller areas one at a time, and press Remove text after each; the fill uses the picture right around each mark.
