HEIF to JPG

Convert .heif photos from Samsung Galaxy phones, Pixels and cameras into JPGs that open anywhere. Nothing is uploaded.

or drop them here · paste with Ctrl/⌘+V

.heif photos from Samsung, Pixel or cameras

Converted on your device — files are never uploaded

In short

To convert HEIF to JPG, drop your .heif files into the box above and press Download. Each photo is decoded in your browser and saved as a full-resolution JPG with the right rotation, while GPS and camera metadata are removed. Files never leave your device, there is no limit, and a batch downloads as one ZIP. HEIF and HEIC are the same format family, so iPhone .heic files work here too.

How to convert HEIF to JPG

  1. Open: drag your .heif photos onto the box above or tap Choose files — on Android you can pick from Gallery or Files.
  2. Set quality: 92 is visually identical to the original; lower it for smaller files.
  3. Convert: photos convert one by one on your device.
  4. Download: save each JPG, or press Download all for a ZIP.

HEIF vs HEIC — what's the difference?

HEIF (High Efficiency Image File Format) is the container standard; HEIC is the name Apple uses for HEIF files whose images are compressed with HEVC. In practice the two extensions hold the same kind of photo, and any tool that reads one reads the other. You see .heif most often on Samsung Galaxy phones with “High efficiency pictures” switched on, on some Google Pixel and Xiaomi models, and on cameras such as recent Sony, Canon and Fujifilm bodies that offer HEIF as a smaller alternative to JPEG. The format saves storage — about half the size of a JPG — but shares HEIC's compatibility problems: Windows needs paid codecs, most browsers can't display it, and many upload forms refuse it. Converting to JPG makes the photo universal. This page decodes HEIF in your browser, so it works on Windows, Chromebooks and Android without installing anything, and your photos stay private.

Your photos stay on your device

Phone photos carry more than pixels: location, time, device model and sometimes faces of people who never agreed to be uploaded anywhere. This converter reads each HEIF file inside your browser, draws it to a canvas and saves a fresh JPG. The original never travels over the network, and the output contains only the image — not the metadata.

  • No upload, no account, no watermark, no daily limit.
  • Full resolution kept on computers; rotation applied.
  • GPS location and EXIF data not copied.
  • Works in Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari.

Built-in ways to deal with HEIF

Depending on your device, you may be able to avoid HEIF or convert it without a website.

Samsung Galaxy

Open Camera > Settings > Advanced picture options (or Formats) and turn off High efficiency pictures. New photos will be JPG. Samsung Gallery can also convert when sharing: some One UI versions show “Convert to JPEG” in the share options, and Samsung converts automatically when you share to apps that don't support HEIF.

Windows

Install HEIF Image Extensions (free) and HEVC Video Extensions (US$0.99) from the Microsoft Store. Then Photos can open the files and Paint can Save as JPEG, one at a time.

Mac

macOS reads HEIF natively. Open the photo in Preview and choose File > Export > JPEG, or select several files in Finder and use Quick Actions > Convert Image.

Quality, size and what isn't kept

Converting decodes the HEIF and re-encodes the pixels as JPEG. At quality 92 the result is visually the same. The file will be larger than the HEIF because JPEG is less efficient. Some HEIF files hold extra items — burst sequences, depth maps or a thumbnail — but the converter takes the primary image, which is what every viewer shows. Motion photos keep their still image; the short video part is not part of JPEG.

Frequently asked questions

Is HEIF the same as HEIC?

Nearly. HEIF is the container format; HEIC is HEIF with HEVC-compressed images, the variant Apple uses. Both convert the same way here.

Why does my Samsung phone save .heif files?

“High efficiency pictures” is turned on in the Camera's settings. Turn it off to save new photos as JPG.

Are my photos uploaded?

No. The conversion happens in your browser and the files never leave your device.

Can I convert HEIF to JPG on Android?

Yes. Open this page in Chrome or Samsung Internet, tap Choose files and pick photos from your Gallery or Files app.

Does the JPG keep full resolution?

Yes on computers and Android. On iPhone Safari, very large images are scaled to about 16.7 megapixels because of Safari's canvas limit.

Is location data removed?

Yes. Only the pixels are saved into the JPG; GPS and other EXIF fields are dropped.
